What makes a women look younger with these 10 Ideas

by in Skin Care Hacks, Beauty Products April 2, 2021

Age is just a number, but there’s no shame in wanting your skin to look a little more plump, dewy, and line-free. We asked makeup artists, dermatologists, and other experts to spill the top tricks and tips they have to reverse some of the earliest signs of aging—fast. These are the 10 ways you can look and feel your best at any age.

Eat Your Fat

You are what you eat. And while taking care of your skin externally is surely important, if you are not nourishing your body internally, you won’t get results that are as impressive. The key: eating healthy fat from sources like avocados, salmon, seeds, and grass-fed beef. which helps support smoother, plumper skin as well as helping your skin retain moisture.

“Eating a variety of nuts and seeds is important for keeping wrinkles at bay, because they contain essential polyunsaturated fatty acids that your body cannot produce. You can obtain them only through diet. These healthy fats can help decrease your inflammation and protect your skin’s natural lipid barrier. Some of the best nuts and seeds to include in your diet are almonds, walnuts, Brazil nuts, macadamia nuts, pumpkin and sunflower seeds, chia, hemp and flax seeds.” — Naomi Whittel, wellness expert, author of Glow15, and founder of OMI Skin Nutrition.

Apply SPF daily.

Especially around your eye area. “Eyelid skin (and the under eye area) is the thinnest in the body, so sun damage shows up quickly in this area in the form of dilating and increased blood flow,” says dermatologist David E. Bank, M.D., Director at The Center for Dermatology, Cosmetic & Laser Surgery in New York. “As a result, you can see a dark glow or color through the transparency of the skin.”

Gently remove your eye makeup.

You might be excited to take off your makeup and hop in bed, but take your time with the removal process. “That constant tugging and pulling at the delicate skin around the eye increases sagging and, as a result, can look darker than the skin around it,” says Paula Begoun, founder of the skincare line Paula’s Choice. “Pulling as little as possible around the eyes can make a big difference over time.” Consider using a cleansing oil or balm to remove mascara and eyeshadow with minimal tugging.

Find a “happy medium” hair length.

Forget the idea that a super-short chop is an age requirement. If you want to cut it short, make sure it’s slightly shaggy so it’s both modern and manageable. That being said, excessive length can drag your hair down, so consider a choppy bob that sits just below the collarbone, suggests Paul Labrecque of the eponymous New York City salons. “Asymmetrical or less-than-perfect shapes deflect attention away from wrinkles,” he adds.

Load up on Vitamin-C packed fruits and veggies.

Vitamin C naturally boosts your body’s collagen, which helps keep your skin firm and youthful-looking, says Jaclyn London, MS, RD, CDN, Good Housekeeping Institute. Stick with bell peppers and strawberries, among others, to give you that youthful glow.

Make salmon a weeknight staple.

“The fish’s high amounts of omega-3 fatty acids help reduce inflammation, which can affect how skin looks,” explains Tamara Melton, M.S., R.D.N., L.D. Nutrients like vitamin D and antioxidants can also reduce the risk of skin cancer and help with acne and rosacea, adds Lauren Ploch, M.D., M.Ed., FAAD, a New Orleans-based dermatologist.

Grab those leafy greens.

London says these powerhouse veggies have the carotene compounds lutein and zeaxanthin, which help protect and hydrate skin cells. You can throw them into smoothies, toss them in salads, or snack on these tasty kale chips to get those nutrients.

Hydrate!

Don’t wait until you feel thirsty: It means you’re already somewhat dehydrated, according to Baylor College of Medicine. And take it from 46-year-old Chris, who says, “When I drink the amount I’m supposed to — at least eight large glasses a day — I look years younger, feel better, and drop five pounds without trying.”

Cut down on the alcohol.

We hate to break it to you, but yes, excessive amounts of alcohol can dehydrate and damage your skin. While it isn’t necessary for everyone to abstain (some research even suggests that a glass or two of vino a day may help you age more slowly), you shouldn’t overdo it.

Use Anti Aging Cream

Wrinkles and fine lines happen to all of us—even to those with the most careful wellness and skin care regimens. The good news: Skincare technology has made it possible to smooth their appearance from the comfort of your own home. Thanks to ingredients like retinoids, hyaluronic acid, Peptide and collagen, anti-wrinkle creams can give skin a more youthful look and feel over time.

More so than a lot of other products out there, wrinkle treatments can over-promise and under-deliver, so it’s important to keep in mind ingredients and what’s realistic for your routine. For example, retinoids tend to irritate skin, but are also very effective at anti-aging. If you’re committed to using a product with retinol or retinoids, be prepared with plenty of sunscreen and the knowledge that your skin might peel from time to time. (Also, women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not use retinol, as it can cross the placental barrier and potentially lead to birth defects.)
